I woke up yesterday morning with an awful cough. I got ready and went to work anyway. I was suppose to go to the oral surgeon for a consult on my wisdom tooth extraction, so I knew I would be leaving early and I figured I could hack it.
As the day went on I got worse, way worse. I had pain from my right ear all the way down my neck to my shoulders. My throat hurt to breath, but only on the right side. And, every time I coughed the right side of my chest would hurt, not a chest pain hurt, but more of like a pain in what felt like my right lung. I was feeling really bad so I left an hour earlier than what I planned on. By the time I got home it was even worse so J told me to call the oral surgeon and cancel and then call the Dr and he would take me. The dr's office told me to go to the clinic or the ER. We chose the clinic thinking it might not take as long, well they were closed, so off to the ER.
I think the receptionist and trioge(sp) nurse were the only brains in the whole place. They put me in a room, doc comes in for MAYBE 2 minutes, and asks what going on. I tell him everything and he checks my breathing & heart and looks into my ears and throat - all clear. Feels the glands in my neck, again says everything is fine. He asks if I'm taking any meds. I said no, and told him I just came off amoxicillin for my abcessed tooth. And he says, "Oh, than that's what all your pain is from" and doesn't ask or do anything else. He does however tell me to take sudafed & benadryl(at the same time), along with advil and the codiene cough syrup he was going to prescribe. He then leaves.
I am completely annoyed at this point and still in utter pain. Then the nurse or whoever she was came in and says I have a viral infection and the doc is giving me phenagrin(sp) for my nausea and an antibiotic for my ear infection. WHAT?? I told her I am NOT nauseous and I NEVER said anything about it AND the dr said I didn't have an ear infection, so why is he giving me these RX's??? And she says, "oh I guess its for the glands around your ear or something". HELLO - What kinda circus are they running???
I don't know if she had me confused with another pt or what, but apparently they don't really care about helping a person get better. I guess they believe if you shove enough pills down someone's throat one of them is bound to make you feel better. Then when I left the only Rx they actually gave me was for the cough. I tried taking the sudafed, advil & cough syrup, but then my RN sister told me DO NOT mix sudafed & benadryl and DO NOT take it along with the syrup. So I guess the doc really did not know what he was doing.
All I know is the only thing that is helping is this codiene cough syrup, whick makes me sleepy, which is why I am home sick from work and laying in bed.......I hate being sick :{
((((HUGS)))))
ReplyDeleteI wish I lived just a little closer so I could bring you some chicken noodle soup. I hope you get better soon.
Could you try to get into the clinic today?
OMG what an ass. I hate ER room doctors. They are the worst! Go to your real doctor as soon as they are open. They didn't give you a chest x-ray? Yeah, all that medicine sounds crazy! don't take it.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Does he figure that killing you would be one less patient to deal with or what? What a dope! Try to get in to your reg doc please.
ReplyDeleteIf you're feeling up to it- there's something for you on my blog! :)
Thanks ladies! I don't have a reg dr that's why I went to the ER. Besides, J's working and I honestly don't have the energy to wash clothes and take a bath. Much less, drive somewhere.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the well wishes - I hope I feel better soon too.
I hope you start to feel better soon. Dr.s ..ugh !
ReplyDeleteYikes! Sounds like you've been through hell and back! I was home sick yesterday, too. Hope you're feeling better today.
