general consenus

Help me out here. As you know we are moving, and I think it is customary to leave the curtains when you sell your house. Right? Well, I am ok with leaving all of them except the kitchen curtains. They match all my kitchen decor and I love them! I know I can still buy them at Lo.we.'s, but I already paid $60 for them and I don't want to buy them again. What shoud I do?

Now, all our windows have mini-blinds, so obviously they stay, but would it really be that bad if I took my kitchen curtains w/me? I have other curtains, that I wouldn't mind leaving behind, but I think if I changed them out that might bring more attention to the window. Certainly the buyer's not going to back out of getting the house b/c I took my curtains with me. I mean, c'mon? Plus, I've met her and I wouldn't say they are not her style, but she is planning on decorating w/antiques and I think they are more modern. Is any of this making sense?

I don't think she will see the house again until she moves in. So, maybe she will be so excited about buying and moving into her new house, that she won't notice the missing curtains.

I need a general consenus here. What should I do?

  1. We never left any curtains or got any curtains when moving into a house. (My dogs have peed on mine anyway. I don't think people would want those!)

  2. I was left with just blinds. They left me no curtains.

And I still do not have curtains up. Tsk Tsk.

  3. Since the windows have mini blinds, I would take all the curtains with you. Unless you don't like the other curtains in your house, then you could leave them for the new owner. :) But, if you want to leave the other curtains, I'd definitely say take your kitchen ones with you.

  4. Our house had no curtains, blinds or even appliances when we bought it, but then again, it was bank owned. I'd say you're safe taking whatever curtains you want with you. Window treatments are relatively inexpensive, and the new owners are probably planning on replacing them to match their style anyway. :)

  5. I agree with everyone else. Take the curtains. It isn't expected to leave any window treatments. Just leave the blinds. Any way, why leave curtains that you love when the next owner will most likely just take them down and redecorate.

  6. Look at the contract, on the 2nd page it will tell you what stays in the house (a/k/a dishwasher, dryer, washing machine, etc.). It will have something that says window treatments, which usually means blinds. I work for a law firm, and curtains have never been left on a real estate transaction. So take all your curtains with you but leave the blinds.

  7. Take your curtains! "Window Treatments" means blinds & they're lucky they're getting those. When my BIL & SIL bought their house (brand new construction) there was NOTHING on the windows!

It's generally considered courtesy to leave any rods, but the curtains are yours!
